Here's the second breed of my "Rare Breed" series, the Norwegian Lundehund!

The Norwegian Lundehund Club of America Website

The Norwegian Lundehund is such an amazing breed with so many weird features! They were bred to hunt puffins on the rocky cliffs of Iceland and Norway. They are very flexible to be able to fit in the tiniest caves along the coast. They have six toes on each foot. The fifth toe is actually as dexterous as their other toes, and the sixth is similar to a dewclaw. These toes let them grip the rocks more easily.
They can also fold up their ears to keep out dust and debris.
Not only that, but they are able to bend their neck backwards all the way and touch their forehead to their spine! Not only that, but they can also spread their front legs all the way out perpendicular to their body. These flexible features help them fit in the tiniest of crags.

The Norwegian Lundehund almost became extinct, but thanks to dedicated lovers of this unique breed, it has made a comeback and has been accepted into the "Miscillaneous Class" of the AKC.

Please check out the above link for the NLCA if you'd like to research this breed more on your own!

Anyway, I love the picture and the background. It's lovely and I'm not sure why but for me it's calming.

I've seen dogs with two dewclaws, but in those cases they served no purpose.
Interesting adaptation.

Beautiful watercolor work. <3
