Lately I've been wanting to make a fursuit for myself (or have a friend make it for me), but I'm not sure how to go about doing something like that. Could you please explain... what exactly a fursuit is (like the Sinestra one you made, or the Arcanine cosplay) and how it's made?
A fursuit is a lot different than a cosplay (Sinestra is a fursuit, full head-to-toe costume, cannot see person inside, etc while my Arcanine costume is just a fun cosplay). A fursuit is basically a mascot-like costume of an animal. It contains a full head, hand paws, feet paws, and a body suit. Fursuits of course can be of any animal, including dragons and non-furry animals.
If you're interested in making a fursuit, the BEST resource is the Fursuit Livejournal community: [link]
If you're not familiar with the layout of Livejournal it might be a bit difficult, but basically you click on the "memories" and "tags" links at the top of that page and look for whatever part of the costume you're working on. Also, since it's a LJ community, you can post on it asking questions and professional fursuit makers can answer your questions
As for the Arcanine cosplay, I can't help too much with that as it was made out of patterns for real clothes that I altered. This is fairly easy as all you need is knowing how to sew and go to your local sewing store and buy patterns for whatever you want to make (pants, jacket, etc). I found tutorials for the hat online.
Hope that helps point you in the right directions to get started! There's tons of tutorials all over the internet for people like you so just start researching
